A new citizen advisory committee has been formed on Hilton Head Island ahead of the International Ecotourism Society's annual conference Sept. 19-21.
The group arose from recommendations last fall from a mayoral task force examining island planning and development. Those recommendations have since been adopted by the Greater Island Council of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton.
The committee will research and develop opportunities to support "sustainable" practices on the island, according to a news release.
Members will be introduced at a roundtable discussion during the ecotourism conference at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort and Spa.
The roundtable panel of experts will include Andrew Craig, senior manager of environmental initiatives for the Royal Bank of Canada; Sara Clow, general manager of the GrowFood Carolina program in Charleston; and Will Paddock, director of strategy for Sustainable Solutions consulting firm.
The discussion will be facilitated by Teresa Wade, executive director of Experience Green, a nonprofit group that provides workshops on sustainable living and business practices; and Denise Grabowski, principal of Symbioscity and member of the Chatham County Environmental Forum.
The session is free and open to the public with advanced online registration at www.experiencegreen.org.
