The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal SUV crash Friday night on Hilton Head Island, authorities say.
Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins, Highway Patrol spokesman, said a 1988 Ford Bronco was headed north on Marshland Road at about 10:45 p.m. when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road near Evelina Road.
The SUV struck a tree and caught fire, Collins said.
The male driver, whose name was not released Saturday, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Beaufort County Deputy Coroner David Ott.

Ott said the man's body was taken Friday to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy.
It is unknown whether the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the Highway Patrol said.
