Each day during the Dixie Boys World Series, a Beaufort player will share his experiences with The Beaufort Gazette and The Island Packet. We caught up with Carson Gregory on Friday to talk about the opening ceremonies:
It was good having it downtown and the nice view and stuff. I'm glad it was downtown, because it was a good location to have something like this.
It was good seeing all the teams before we actually played them and getting a good look at them all. The games were all right.
It was pretty cool having Dan Driessen talk to us. He was just talking about his experiences playing with all these pros, playing with Pete Rose, home runs he hit in the World Series, telling us to try our hardest and keep our heads up whatever we do. He said he played with Ken Griffey Sr. I remember he was talking about a home run he hit in the World Series to win. It was a big deal.
Never miss a local story.
I've been waiting to come to this (home run derby) all day. I want to see Matt (Pike) hit, see if he wins or not, see how all the other players hit.
I want him to win it. But I don't know what these other kids have got. We'll see. It'd be awesome if he did, though.
We're itching to play tomorrow night. I know we're all ready to play in front of the home fans. We've been practicing hard and playing a lot of games already. I think we'll be ready. I think (Pike's) on the mound. So we'll see what he does.
