Hoping to give its soccer and football programs a boost, Beaufort Academy recently renovated its athletic field at the school on Lady's Island.
"It was in need of a face-lift," said Liz Malinowski, the school's director of finance and operations. "Both programs are doing really well, so we wanted to give them a new field and really support them."
Malinowski said she did not know how much the renovation will cost but said the work was funded through private donations.
As part of the renovation, the school removed a track that previously ran around the field, pulled up old grass, put in a new irrigation system and re-sodded the area.
Workers were expected to finishing laying new sod today.
Students will start playing on the new field in August, Malinowski said.
