The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office searched several hours Friday, ultimately in vain, for a suspect in car break-ins near the Mi Tierra restaurant on William Hilton Parkway.
Deputies saw a black male wearing a white tank top and blue wind pants run into the nearby marsh when they responded to calls about the break-ins at about 10 a.m.
Authorities formed a perimeter around the marsh between Humane Way and Jonesville Road and brought in a canine unit. A few people reported sightings, but the suspect was not found, according to Sgt. Robin McIntosh.
