A Lady's Island fast-food restaurant was robbed at gunpoint late Saturday while a witness watched through the drive-thru window, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
After seeing what appeared to be a robbery at the Dairy Queen on Sea Island Parkway, the motorist drove away and flagged down a Sheriff's Office patrol car. Deputies responded at about 10:45 p.m., but the robber had already fled.
Employees described a black male 20 to 30 years old, wearing a green jumpsuit, gloves and a white T-shirt wrapped around his head, according to a Sheriff's Office news release. The man entered through a rear door, brandished a handgun and took money from the cash register. He then left on foot, the release states.
No one was harmed, and no customers were inside the restaurant at the time, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Robin McIntosh.
The amount of money stolen is not yet known, and the incident remains under investigation.
