Mass-casualties training planned for Hilton Head
The Town of Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division will conduct training exercises May 18-20 on responding to a vehicle crash involving a bus with adults and children headed to an off-island event.
The exercise will allow personnel to practice the skills to manage large numbers of injuries or deaths from an incident, according to a news release. Community members will play the role of victims during the training.
The sessions are from 9 to 10 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. each day.

Road work planned on Hilton Head
Road work that might slow drivers is scheduled for the north end of Hilton Head Island this week and next.
Work will be performed on both sides of William Hilton Parkway between Spanish Wells and Squire Pope roads from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Wednesday.
On Monday, work will begin on Gumtree Road between William Hilton Parkway and Wild Horse Road. Work times will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through May 31.
REA Contracting is handling both projects, which will involve lane closures. Workers will direct drivers, according to a company news release.

Zonta to hold walks against violence
The Zonta Club of Hilton Head Island invites the public to "Take a Stand in the Sand, Unite -- Say No to Violence Against Women" on May 14 at Coligny Beach.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the walks -- a 1-mile barefoot walk or a 3-mile extended walk -- begin at 9 a.m.
The $20 entry fee will benefit local women's charities, a Zonta news release said.

Volunteer counselors needed to help with Medicare
The Lowcountry Council of Governments needs volunteers to serve as insurance counselors to assist Medicare beneficiaries.
Six sessions of volunteer training will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for six weeks beginning May 25 at LCOG at Point South, off Interstate 95's Exit 33. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage, and lunch will be provided.
