The Leadership Beaufort Alumni Association will kick off its 2011 State of the County series with a discussion on city planning and new urbanism.
The event is open to the public and begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday with a cash bar and light hors d'oeuvres in the lounge of the Hilton Garden Inn.
A panel discussion at 6 p.m. will examine the way the region designs and builds communities and how it might do things differently, according to a news release.
Panelists include architect Michael Frederick, county Planning Commission chairman Jim Hicks, developer Dick Stewart and Vince Graham of the Congress of New Urbanism.
