A 20-year-old Bluffton woman was charged Wednesday in connection with the robbery of a man Tuesday night on Muddy Creek Road, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Ellissa Danielle Dietrich faces a charge of felony strong-arm robbery, said Sgt. Robin McIntosh, a sheriff's spokeswoman. Investigators believe the robbery was drug related, she said.
A Bluffton man told deputies about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday he had asked a man and a woman at a gas station on U.S. 278 for a ride home earlier that evening. The couple took him to apartments near Belfair. Once there, the male passenger said he had to go to Hilton Head before taking the victim home.
Dietrich drove them to Hilton Head in her white Volkswagen, McIntosh said.
Dietrich pulled into a driveway off Muddy Creek Road, where the victim was pulled from the car by a group of people, thrown to the ground and attacked. He told officers his attackers took about $1,200, his wallet and cell phone.
Dietrich and the male passenger drove away in the Volkswagen, which deputies found later in front of an island residence, where she apparently had abandoned it, McIntosh said.
Dietrich also was charged with providing false information for reporting the car stolen, McIntosh said. No other suspects have been identified.
