A 20-year-old North Carolina man last seen Oct. 19 at Hunting Island State Park is still missing, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
William Kent of Asheville was among a group of students from the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine in North Carolina visiting the island during a field trip last week when a fellow student noticed he was missing, sheriff's Lt. Jerry Spencer said.
Kent's cell phone, wallet and bag were found by a sand dune toward the southern end of the island, Spencer and park manager Jeff Atkins said.
Atkins said park staff, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, the Coast Guard and the Beaufort Water Search and Rescue Squadron conducted daily searches along the beach, but the initial searches have since ended.
Kent was last seen wearing black and white Hawaiian-pattern swim trucks. He has brown hair, blue eyes, is 6 feet tall, 150 pounds and has a tattoo of wings on his back, according to a report on the Sheriff's Office website.
He is described as having a lip that has a distinctive look of being swollen.
