Zachary Brown is the catcher for Beaufort's all-star team, which played this week in the Dixie Boys World Series in Seneca. Each day of the tournament, a player has shared his experience with The Beaufort Gazette and The Island Packet with a diary.
Never miss a local story.
It's going to be tough leaving here. Real tough.
It's been an amazing week.
We had a lot of time to kill before our game Tuesday, so we went over to Clemson and saw the campus and got to check out Memorial Stadium. We got to go out on the field and see the weight room and locker room and everything, so that was cool.
I'm a Gamecock baseball fan, but Clemson is a beautiful campus, and it was good to be in the presence there, knowing there are so many great students and it's a great college with a lot of history.
With everybody that we have on our team, I have a lot of friends here, so I really don't want to leave.
Just being out here with all my friends, winning ball games and playing good baseball has been amazing. Just being on the field, just being here is a big honor.
I'm proud of everybody on this team.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed with the way things ended against the host team from Seneca. I don't know about anybody else on the team, but I wanted to win it all and take the title back to Beaufort for the first time.
But we did what we did. I hope Beaufort is proud of us.
