A 1-year-old girl was inside a pickup truck driven by a Port Royal man who led an early Saturday morning car chase in Yemassee.
The 24-year-old driver, the child’s father, allegedly ran a stop sign at Castle Hall Road and Old Sheldon Church Road around 2:30 a.m. and refused to stop for a Yemassee Police Department officer who attempted to pull him over, according to a police news release. He allegedly reached 100 mph during the chase that ended on Wise Road.
The man ran into a nearby mobile home, injuring his head on the way inside, and surrendered to police minutes later, according to the release. The baby was uninjured and put in the custody of the driver’s father.
The driver was treated at Hampton Regional Medical Center for a laceration above his eye before being transported to Hampton County Detention Center on charges of failure to stop for blue lights and child endangerment, according to the release.
