Not much time has passed since the closing of Peace, Love & Hotdogs in Beaufort, but it looks like a new barbecue joint is about to move in.
A sign for Smokin’ Oaks Barbeque has popped up at 911 Boundary St., where the hotdog restaurant was until September, and it appears this new restaurant will be open just in time for the holidays.
The sign posted on the front door indicates that this new eatery will specialize in slow-smoked pork served off a smoker with three homemade BBQ sauces and will open Dec. 6.
Menu items listed on the sign include BBQ sandwiches, ribs and plates, a baked potato, salad, fried chicken salad, Brunswick stew, fried okra, collard greens and pork sliders for kids. The restaurant will also offer beer and wine, according to the sign.
Michael Jones, owner of Smokin’ Oaks Barbeque, said Friday morning that he still had every intention of opening his doors at 11 a.m. Dec. 6. He said he’s a countryman who has cooked barbecue for more than 30 years and wants to open a family oriented restaurant.
“I just can’t wait,” he said.
