The town of Port Royal will officially kick off the holiday season next week with a pair of annual traditions.
The town’s Christmas tree lighting will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Live Oak Park, adjacent to Port Royal Elementary School on Paris Avenue. Students from the school will sing Christmas carols, town employees will serve hot dogs and Santa is expected to arrive on a fire truck and visit with children in the nearby oyster shed.
Port Royal’s seventh annual golf cart parade will begin at 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 10 at Helena Place on Paris Avenue. The parade is open to out-of-town golf carts, with trailer parking available in the post office parking lot on Paris Avenue. The rain date will be Dec. 11.
The parade route goes down Paris Avenue to 9th Street, down London Avenue to 12th Street and ends at the town Christmas tree. The event also will include a cookie contest and refreshments.
