The Women's Tennis Organization of Sun City's annual charity event, "Tennis in the Pink," will be held at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 1 at the tennis courts in Sun City Hilton Head. A lunch will be held at noon in the pavilion. The event is open to all Sun City residents and their guests. Donations will go to the breast cancer nonprofit organization Carolina Cups. Sign-up will begin Sept. 1 and end Sept. 26. Cost is $30 for tennis and lunch or $15 for lunch only. Carolina Cups will host its own fundraiser, LoCo Motion, Sept. 30-Oct. 2 on the beaches of Hilton Head Island and in old town Bluffton. Participants will walk or run a different 10-mile course each day for a total of 30 miles.

A Bluffton Block Party will be held 12-5 p.m. Sept. 10. at Buckwalter Place in Bluffton. The purpose of the event is to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Proceeds will go to Operation R&R. Entertainment will include The Steppin' Stones, the Blue Dogs and John O'Gorman. An honor guard presentation will be given by the Bluffton fire and police departments. Food will include hot dogs, brats, pizza, burgers and more. Cost is $5 each. Active duty military, police, fire and rescue workers and their families are free with ID. Hargray Communications will host a VIP tent for $100 each. Tickets for the VIP tent may be purchased at State Farm in Buckwalter Place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday or by calling 843-837-2886. Gates will open at 11:15 a.m. Bring a chair. No pets or coolers allowed. Rain date is 1-6 p.m. Sept. 11.

Heroes on Horseback's fall session is starting soon and volunteers are needed to assist the children. Heroes on Horseback is a therapeutic riding program providing equine-assisted activities for individuals in the Lowcountry with physical, mental or emotional disabilities. Volunteer orientation will be 10 a.m. Sept. 10. Experience with horses not required.

The Hilton Head Choral Society's annual pops concert, "Summer Song," will be at 8 p.m. Sept. 2 at First Presbyterian Church, 540 William Hilton Parkway on Hilton Head Island. This year's musical lineup includes Broadway blockbusters from Stephen Sondheim, the Gershwins and Irving Berlin and a special tribute to Lerner and Lowe's iconic musical, "My Fair Lady." Tickets are $20.

The Archaeological Society of South Carolina, Hilton Head Chapter, will feature Nena Powell Rice of South Carolina Institute of Anthropology and Archaeology at its meeting at 1 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island.
