  • Hilton Head's next public art sculpture: “Setting Sun”

The 19-foot tall sculpture, by Pennsylvania-based artist Tom Holmes, on Tuesday was named the winner of the 2015 Public Art Exhibition on Hilton Head Island. The piece consists of “bright orange radials that span symmetrically from a steel base.” The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry's Public Art Fund will buy Holmes' piece (for $30,000) and, as it's done with six other pieces since 2006, donate it to the Town of Hilton Head. The biennial Public Art Expo is held at Coastal Discovery Museum. This year's event, featuring 19 large-scale sculptures, runs through Dec. 31.
