Marge Aitken Holcombe, who wrote humor columns for the Island Packet for a dozen years beginning in 1996, also put her trademark wit to use in her own obituary, published in the Packet on Aug. 14.
Holcombe, who died Aug. 12 at the age of 84, left no doubt about how she wanted to be remembered, writing in the first paragraph, "When a friend facetiously asked if I was writing my obituary before or after I passed away, I told her 'Carol, I know my limitations.'"
The obituary caught the eye of Huffington Post columnist Ann Brenoff, who reproduced it in that publication Aug. 18 with permission from The Island Funeral Home under the headline "This Is The Best Obit. Ever."
