A boat took on water and capsized off Skull Inlet late Thursday, forcing its operator to swim to shore, according to the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Charleston.
The recreational trawler ran aground at about 11 p.m., Lt. Cameron Cooper said. The boat's only occupant had made it to shore by the time the Coast Guard learned of the incident and sent a rescue helicopter to the scene, Cooper said.
The boater was not injured, said Cooper, who could not provide his name.
The trawler's owner was working Friday to salvage his boat, according to Cooper.
