PHOTO: New traffic signals aim for safer turns in Okatie

Cameron Bruce of Carolina Traffic Controls unwraps traffic-signal arms Friday that will be installed at the intersection of the new Hampton Parkway and U.S. 278 in Okatie. The new parkway meets U.S. 278 just west of Stokes Brown Toyota. The intersection is one of three to get traffic lights that will have a flashing yellow left-turn signal -- essentially, a yield sign for drivers turning left -- in addition to the typical solid green, yellow and red arrows, according to county traffic engineer Colin Kinton. The other two intersections on U.S. 278 to receive similar signals are at Buckwalter Parkway and Buck Island Road.
