A lane off the Cross Island Parkway ramp opposite Gumtree Road will be converted to a free-flow, right-turn only lane while the Town of Hilton Head Island does work to build pathways near the parkway's intersection with William Hilton Parkway, part of several changes around the intersection.
To accommodate this change, the far-right lane of eastbound William Hilton Parkway approaching this intersection must be converted from a shared through/right-turn lane to a right-turn-only lane.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, the town's contractor will close the far-right lane of eastbound traffic on William Hilton Parkway, ahead of the signal at its intersection with Gumtree Road and the Cross Island Parkway off ramp. It will remain closed for the duration of the construction project, reopening as a right-turn lane serving motorists turning onto the on-ramp toward the Cross Island Parkway later in the project, according to a town news release. That lane is expected to be reopened in late October.
Eastbound motorists on William Hilton Parkway are asked to be aware of this lane closure and to use extra caution as they travel between Spanish Wells Road and Gumtree Road.
