The Hilton Head Island Town Council meets at 4 p.m. Tuesday and is expected to continue a committee discussion about banning texting while driving that was held Monday.
The Public Safety Committee, a town sub-committee made up of council members, voted unanimously Monday to bring the topic to the full council. The issue is not on the meeting agenda, but is expected to come up during council's committee reports.
Council members and town staff seem in agreement about the dangers of texting while driving, but whether a law banning the practice would be enforceable and whether the town should wait for the S.C. General Assembly to pass a ban were questions discussed at Monday's meeting.
Council is also expected to begin town budget talks for fiscal year 2013-2014 and consider giving a vote of support for bringing an Ironman triathlon to the island, an effort headed by Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.
