A 16-year-old Beaufort boy was charged Tuesday with felony arson for a fire in December at Battery Creek High School.
Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies believe Leroy Earvy Prince and a second person, whom they said they could not identify Tuesday, intentionally set a paper towel holder on fire in a bathroom at about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at the field house near the football field. The fire caused about $4,000 damage to the building, according to Sgt. Robin McIntosh.
Prince was booked at about 8 a.m. but released about two hours later from the Beaufort County Detention Center on personal recognizance. He is being charged as an adult.
The investigation is ongoing, McIntosh said, and further charges and arrests are expected.
