A young man would come to Bluffton Self Help's Wednesday-afternoon food distribution every week to pick up food for his mother.
He thanked the volunteers for the afternoon distribution -- he was unable to get to the morning one because of his job -- and he told of how important the food helped offset grocery expenses for his wheelchair-bound mother.
After hearing his story, the volunteers added his mother to Thursday's homebound delivery program, in which volunteer Mickey Shumake picks up food from Bluffton Self Help and delivers it once a week to more 20 Bluffton residents who are unable to pick up food on their own.
Bluffton Self Help provides a broad range of social services for poor working families, the disabled, sick and elderly.
