Family Promise of Beaufort County’s trailer was damaged when vandals broke the door during an attempted robbery, the nonprofit organization reported today.
The families were sleeping at a church on Hilton Head Island when the trailer was vandalized in the parking lot, according to a news release.
“Family Promise is a “moving” homeless shelter for families with children and depends on the trailer to operate,” the release said. “The trailer moves each family’s belongings along with their beds and cribs to and from congregations every Sunday.”
“We have the expense of repairing the trailer but thankfully nothing appears to be missing,” said Elliott Brown, Family Promise executive director. “I imagine the perpetrators were disappointed upon discovering the only items on the trailer at the time were portable beds that are falling apart and desperately need replacing.”
Three years ago, the trailer was stolen when it was parked at a church in Bluffton.
Family Promise is a donor and volunteer driven nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide shelter to homeless children and their families while equipping them with the skills and resources to return to stable housing. Details: www.familypromisebeaufortcounty.org
