Firefighters from the Bluffton Township Fire District had to open up the ceiling to battle a "deep-seated" fire that began in one of the walls of the attic of the amenity center at Mill Creek on Sunday morning, according to Capt. Randy Hunter.
Someone walking past the amenity center reported smoke and flames coming from the roof of the three-story building at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Hunter said.
Firefighters determined the origin of the fire was within one of the attic walls and extinguished the flames within an hour. Damage was contained to the chimney area, Hunter said.
The fire is under investigation, and its cause has not been determined, Hunter said.
