Firefighters extinguished a small balcony fire at Hilton Head Island Beach and Tennis Resort on Thursday morning, an official said.
Joheida Fister, spokesperson for Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue, said in a news release that investigators arrived at the resort on Folly Field Road at 10:07 a.m. and had the fire under control 30 minutes later.
The fire was on the balcony of Unit 434 in Admiral’s Row, Building D, she said. The occupants of the unit were not home.
The fire appears to have been caused by improperly discarded smoking materials, according to Fister.
