An abandoned house on the future site of May River Preserve is serving as the training ground for Bluffton Township Fire District firefighters. May River Preserve officials donated the structure to the fire district for the sole purpose that it be used to enhance the skills of area firefighters. "Demolishing the home is a necessary choice," said Bryan Jacoby, sales executive at May River Preserve. "However, allowing the fire department to use the house in the interim not only enriches the skills of these local heroes, but will also benefit those community members they will be called upon to assist in the future." Once the training is complete, the area will become one of the 109 future homesites in May River Preserve, which has a planned Phase I release early this fall. Details: www.mayriverpreserve.com
