BFG Communications, an advertising firm with clients such as Coca-Cola and Warner Bros. Entertainment, is nearly doubling the size of its presence in greater Bluffton.
The Beaufort County-based company has plans to build a two-story, 19,000-square-foot building at its campus off Buckingham Plantation Drive. It also hopes to add about 40 employees in the next year, according to president and CEO Kevin Meany. The company currently has three buildings with about 20,000 square feet of office space for its 170 employees, he said.
The new building will replace a vacant structure on Buckingham Plantation Drive. It will house most of the creative staff and include conference rooms for meeting with clients and meeting space for employees.
"This will be the first time our employees in Beaufort County will be able to meet in one room," Meany said. "Right now, we have to go to the parking lot."
The project is expected to cost $2 million to $3 million and be completed by next July, he said.
It comes 18 months after the company received a $57 million contract with the S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Under the 6 1/2-year contract, BFG will market the state's parks to visitors, with a focus on the undiscovered and unique experiences South Carolina offers.
Last week, the company rolled out the department's new tourism website. It has also created the department's barbecue marketing campaign, including an online "BBQ Trail Map" and interstate billboards that tout South Carolina as the birthplace of barbecue.
Started in 1995, BFG has more than 20 offices across the country, including locations in Tampa, Atlanta and New York.
