Many Hargray Communications customers in Beaufort and Jasper counties lost high-speed Internet service Thursday morning, according to company spokesman Robert Gilbert.
Gilbert reported the outage at 7:40 a.m. and said service was restored by about noon.
The outage was caused by a "hardware/software interface issue," Gilbert said. He added that the outage affected the company's entire service area, which includes Beaufort and Jasper counties and parts of Georgia as far south as Pooler.
"We are very sorry for today's service outage that affected your Hargray high-speed Internet. During routine maintenance, we experienced a critical device failure that resulted in the outage," an email from company vice president of sales and marketing Gerrit Albert said. "All services have now been restored."
If problems continued, customers were advised to contact Hargray technical support at 843-686-1138. Those with a Hargray-provided home telephone line could call 611.
