A Beaufort discount clothing store, opened last summer by the city's mayor, his brother and a local liquidation-business owner, has closed its shop on Robert Smalls Parkway, but its online store will remain open, Mayor Billy Keyserling said.
The Clothes Line focuses on discounted clothing, shoes and accessories bought by the trailer-load from middle- to upper-end retailers and department stores outside the area. More expensive items like designer purses are sold through its eBay operation.
"My intention was never to be a traditional retail store," Keyserling said. "Our business was about really giving people deals."
Keyserling said he hopes to reopen the shop and has been looking for a lower-cost space to keep overhead down, but hasn't been able to find a suitable 6,000- to 7,000-square-foot warehouse.
Liquidator's Clothes Line is an arm of Beaufort Liquidation, which Jeff Lowe opened in 2011. Last summer, Beaufort Liquidation moved from 164 Robert Smalls Parkway to 5 Parker Drive in Burton, and the Clothes Line opened in the Robert Smalls Parkway spot.
