Created by Beaufort County Council in February, the Capital Project Sales Tax Commission will get to work April 10 identifying capital projects that could be paid for by a new sales tax.
With six members representing five Beaufort County communities, the commission will seek input from Beaufort County residents in a series of public hearings before submitting a final list of projects. The public hearings have not yet been scheduled.
Once the list of projects is compiled, the commission will draft an ordinance for approval by County Council. If adopted, the projects list and sales tax will appear as a referendum on the November ballot, according to a county news release.
The commission members are: Mike Covert of Bluffton, Craig Forrest of Sun City, Scott Graberof Port Royal, Scott Richardson of Hilton Head Island, Jeffery Robinowich of Bluffton and BillRobinson of Beaufort.
The commission's first meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. April 10 in the Beaufort County Council Chambers at 100 Ribaut Road in Beaufort.
The public is invited to this first meeting. The meeting will be aired live on The County Channel and streamed at www.bcgov.net
