One department at a time, Beaufort Memorial Hospital administration is moving into the nearly completed $17-million Medical and Administrative Center, across Ribaut Road from the main campus.
The moves started last week and will continue for about one more week, hospital spokeswoman Courtney McDermott said.
More than two dozen offices will be on the third and fourth floors of the 80,000-square-foot building at 990 Ribaut Road. They include human resources, accounting and financial services, and additional space to back up patient medical records.
The first and second floors, where the LifeFit Wellness Center will be, are under construction, she said. It is being expanded from 10,000 square feet to 17,000 square feet and will share the first two floors with outpatient, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation.
Beaufort Memorial has been renting three offices around the community for the wellness center and other departments, at an annual cost of $521,820.
Administrative-building employees will park on that side of Ribaut Road, freeing up parking on the main campus. Several small offices that have been used by administrative departments will be demolished to create 250 more parking spaces.
