Construction has begun on a new Dollar Tree in front of Lowe's Home Improvement Store in Beaufort.
The 10,000-square-foot store will be at the intersection of Robert Smalls Parkway and Burton Hill Road.
Several aspects of the store were changed by the city's Design Review Board to save trees on the previously wooded lot and screen the side of the building facing Burton Hill Road.
Bike racks were moved closer to the store's entrance to save a pine tree, and the store sign was moved to save maple trees, according to meeting minutes. The building itself was shifted to allow more space for pedestrians and preserve additional trees.
Never miss a local story.
The Dollar Tree is the first business to move onto one of the four lots in front of Lowe's, all of which are zoned commercial. Lowe's has been at 207 Robert Smalls Parkway for a decade.
