MoviePass is changing the game for the way moviegoers can go to the theater and here is how it works in Beaufort County.
For $9.95 a month, users can see up to one movie a day (yes, a day) at any participating movie theater — and the company says more than 98 percent of theaters across the country accept the service.
All five movie theaters in Bluffton, Beaufort and on Hilton Head Island accept MoviePass, according to the company’s phone application. It also works for theaters in Savannah and Pooler.
There are no blackout dates, and subscribers are allowed to use the service at any of the 4,000 theaters across the country.
Never miss a local story.
Yet, there are a few catches — 3-D movies are not included in service, nor can you buy tickets in advance.
A subscription to the service also can be given as a gift for three, six or 12 months.
If you are uncertain that you will see enough movies a month to justify the subscription, locals have another movie package they can try.
Cinemark rolled out its Movie Club this week.
For $8.99 per month, Movie Club members can get one free ticket to any 2D movie, according to its website. Tickets also can be rolled over to future months if not used.
This doesn’t feel like as good of a deal with general admission to a movie at Cinemark Bluffton, costing $8.90 with children and senior prices at $7.25.
However, if you are an avid one-movie-a-month type of person and tend to splurge on concessions, it might be for you.
Movie Club members will also receive 20 percent off concessions and can share the benefits with a friend.
Online fees for purchasing tickets are also waived.
Rewards also can be earned via the online application, the website says.
