Home canning workshops scheduled
Beaufort County Extension will hold a home-canning workshop June 5, which will cover the basics of water-bath and pressure canning.
Concert planned in honor of musician
A memorial benefit and concert in honor of musician Clayton Fier of Beaufort, who recently died at age 53, will be from noon to 10 p.m. June 2 at Live Oaks Park, at the corner of 14th Street and London Avenue in Port Royal.

Hilton Head Island-based Carolina Heritage Insurance has hired Rett Thompson as an agent specializing in homeowners, automobile personal liability and flood insurance.
Speed limit increased on Hilton Head bridge
The S.C. Department of Transportation increased the speed limit on the Charles E. Fraser toll bridge and Palmetto Bay Road as of Wednesday. The new limit is 45 mph from the northern end of the toll bridge to just north of the signal at Target Road, near the Smokehouse restaurant.
SCORE searching for new volunteers
The Service Corps of Retired Executives, which provides free mentoring for small businesses and nonprofit organizations, is searching for new volunteers in the Beaufort area.

Mother, son killed in wreck ID'd
