An employee at a Boundary Street business thwarted an armed robbery attempt Wednesday, according to Beaufort police.
Witnesses said that a man walked into Cash for Gold at about 5 p.m., brandished a handgun and demanded cash from an employee and a customer, said Police Chief Matt Clancy.
Clancy said the clerk fought off the armed suspect, who fled the business and was believed to have gotten into a vehicle waiting on Hogarth Street.
No injuries were reported and no items or money were reported stolen, he said.
The suspect was described by witnesses as a black man of medium height wearing a purple hooded jacket, dark jeans, a dark mask and gloves.
