Two people died and a 17-year-old was injured early this morning after an SUV crashed into a tree on St. Helena Island, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The driver of a 2004 Jeep Cherokee was headed south on Seaside Road about 1 a.m. and drove off the right side of the road, according to patrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres. “The driver over-corrected, ran off the left side of the roadway and then struck a tree.”
The driver and a passenger died in the crash, Beres said. A passenger identified as Bobby Price, 17, of St. Helena Island was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Beres said.
Neither the driver nor the passengers were wearing seat belts, according to Beres. The identities of the deceased have not been released.
The wreck remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
