Beaufort Police are investigating a shooting late Wednesday near the corner of Duke Street and Charles Street.
Officers were called downtown at about 10 p.m. after a 44-year-old Seabrook man was shot in the wrist as he walked up Duke Street, said Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy.
Clancy said the man had just left the Elks Club on Church Street when another men approached him with a drawn pistol and fired.
The suspect was described only as a tall black male, according to police.

Clancy said investigators think the man may have known his attacker.
“There is some evidence indicating that these two people may have had prior dealings, but we’re still getting all of that stuff sorted out,” he said.
The victim was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
