Out of Place: Memories of Edward Said
The life and legacy of Palestinian-born intellectual Edward Said is explored in this biographical documentary that takes its title from the history, philosophy, literature, music, and political critic's 2000 memoir of the same name. Known primarily in the United States for his lifelong struggle to voice the plight of the Palestinian people, Said was a constant proponent of reconciliation and coexistence. In this film, documentary director Makoto Sato blends passages from Said's memoir and various writings with home movie footage dating back to 1947 as well as interviews with a wide variety of Arab, Israeli, and American cultural critics. The resulting tribute to Said not only celebrates the influential thinker's personal life, but the endless importance of his life work as well. With appearances by such high profile historians, politicians, artists, and colleagues as Daniel Baremboim, Noam Chomsky, Elias Khoury, and Dan Rabinowitz, Out of Place offers telling testament to the lasting impact that one individual can have on the world when they are truly dedicated to making a positive change.~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide Rated No Rating .
