Almost a year ago Beaufort Church of God Pastor Dwayne Strickland's spleen was ruptured, and he suffered a major concussion after his motorcycle collided with a car.

Turns out his injuries weren't anything three days in intensive care and a week in the hospital couldn't cure. And along with the help of God, Strickland is back on his motorcycle.

At 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Strickland is inviting fellow bikers to join his church's "Biker Sunday" service, where afterward there will be a barbecue lunch and a ride around the Lowcountry.

"We want bikers to know they are welcome at our church," Strickland said. "I love to ride and to associate with people who do.

"It doesn't matter what make or model you ride, if you ride a motorcycle, then this is a church service for you."

The church is at 641 Parris Island Gateway in Beaufort.

THE BAPTIST CHURCH OF BEAUFORT

Around 11:30 a.m., the baptismal candidates will march in a processional to the boat landing at the end of the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park.

"We started back doing this because the church has been here since the 1700s and this is where they would come to do the baptisms," said Dr. Jim Wooten, pastor of the Baptist Church of Beaufort. "We are trying to get in touch with our roots. The river is such a big part of Beaufort and so close to the church."
