A calling. I felt led to work with these groups and help them better themselves. The teens do Bible quizzing. They study a particular book of the Bible and meet every month with other teams in the district for a quizzing competition. I like teens, I like their energy and their enthusiasm. The College and Career group is like one step up. There's a little more in-depth Bible study.
Reaching out. We really want to reach out to the community. The groups also do community service. We've picked up trash. We've done things for special needs adults -- at Christmas, we made cards for them. I try to reach out to different groups that don't get a lot of attention.
Most rewarding. Seeing them succeed. When they do well in quizzing, it's great to see because they're learning the Word. The Bible tells us we need to store it in our hearts, so to see that they're actually doing that at such young ages.
Heads on straight. A lot of adults, I'm one of them, grow up in the church and then kind of stray. To come back and see these kids at such a young age already have their heads on straight, and they know what they want and they're going for it. It's really rewarding to be a part of that.
Favorite Bible verse. Isaiah 40:31. "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Even when we feel that we can't do it, God gives us strength to overcome anything. I like the idea of the eagles, and we're soaring up there to heights only Christ can take us to.
