For the third consecutive year, Congregation Beth Yam on Hilton Head Island received a grant from the Blumenthal Jewish Home Foundation for Senior Services.
In July, the congregation was awarded a $3,000 grant for its "Extending the Temple Walls" program, which is focused on reaching older Jewish adults who are isolated, often living in predominantly Christian communities.
"We're really trying to help older folks maintain a connection with their Jewish heritage and traditions, and help them in recalling it," said Sandy Leff, the co-chairwoman of the Care Committee at Beth Yam.
The grant goes toward funding the committee's programs, which include musical performances, holiday parties, speakers and services.
Never miss a local story.
The next program, "A Taste of Broadway," will be held Dec. 11, and will include the airing of "Broadway Musicals: a Jewish Legacy," which examines the role and influence of Jewish composers and lyricists on Broadway. A traditional Jewish lunch, New York deli style, will be served.
The committee also will hold an afternoon Jewish film series beginning in January.
