Local vacation Bible schools sound more fun and even healthier than ever. Two camps -- Veggie Fun World and the Big Apple Adventure -- are taking a crunchy, fruity approach. One church has turned its course toward the sea, and yet another simply seeks the truth. Here are some of the upcoming vacation Bible schools in Beaufort County:
THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST. HELENA, PRAISE ASSEMBLY
There will be three sessions of Veggie Fun World at the church this summer. All children will design their own unique T-shirt with each session's theme. Session one coincides with the older children's vacation Bible school program in cooperation with Praise Assembly in Shell Point.
Vacation Bible school and Veggie Fun World I are 9 a.m. to noon June 20-24. Cost is $130 a child for ages 18 months to 6 years.

Veggie Fun World II is 9 a.m. to noon July 18-29 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Cost is $145.
Veggie Fun World III is Aug. 15-26 and will provide a transition into the regular fall school schedule. The days for activities are 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

OKATEE BAPTIST CHURCH
The Big Apple Adventure vacation Bible school for ages 3 to those finishing sixth grade will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday through June 16. Amid the sights and sounds of the city, kids will hear Bible stories about people who stepped out in faith and connected with Jesus and learn how they can do the same. The camp features crafts, music and games. The church is at 5467 North Okatie Highway (S.C. 170).
RED DAM BAPTIST CHURCH
The Big Apple vacation Bible school will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The event is free and open to children ages 2 and older, including classes for youth and adults. Friday night is Family Night, inviting parents to share the end of the adventure with their children. Dinner will be served each night. A nursery will be provided. The church is at 93 Red Dam Church Road, Hardeeville.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
LowCountry Habitat for Humanity will hold family orientation sessions at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Riverview Baptist Church, Boundary Street, Beaufort. Orientation sessions are the first step in the family selection process, and attendance at one of these sessions is mandatory for those interested in becoming Habitat partner families. Qualified future homeowners currently live in sub-standard housing, live or work in northern Beaufort County, have a steady source of income not above 60 percent of the median income, are willing to partner with Habitat and have the ability to repay a zero-interest mortgage.
