2010 Robert Mondavi Private Selection Riesling, California; $11
Many folks like to enjoy a light and delicious summer wine on hot and humid evenings. This wine fits the bill. It starts with terrific aromas of orange blossoms, peaches and citrus zest. Once it hits the mouth the flavors explode with a terrific balance of sweet and acidity. There are layers of fresh peaches and apricots, and melon notes, all of which are balanced by the acidity of lemony citrus notes. This refreshing wine definitely has a sweeter note in each sip. It's great with fruit and grilled foods, in addition to sushi or Asian-inspired foods.
Small Batch Bulleit Rye, United States; $26
This whiskey is 95 percent rye sourced from around the world and 5 percent barley, giving it a truly unique, smooth, mellow taste. It has aromas of cherries, toffee and creamy oak, which perfectly flow into the flavors. The same aromas show up in the flavors along with additional notes of spice, caramel and a sweet smokiness. This a delicious whiskey that has loads of character and flavor. It's terrific on the rocks or mixed in a cocktail.
