Name: Jane Cordell Harmon
Children: Brady, 11
Never miss a local story.
Occupation: I wear a lot different hats -- strategic account leader for Staples Advantage, Thirty-One consultant and owner of Shrimp Loco (mobile food unit)
Favorite mommy moment: Oh, gosh. There are so many favorite mommy moments. I would have to say that it would be the first time Brady said, "I love you, Mommy."
Most challenging moment: My most challenging moment would have to be going through in vitro fertilization to get our handsome miracle son. Science and a bunch of wonderful doctors made our dreams come true, but it was not an easy journey. It was a roller-coaster ride of emotions. But in the end all worked out.
Proud mommy moment: Brady makes me proud daily, but I am most proud of his academic success and dedication to being an honorable Boy Scout.
Favorite song: "Living on a Prayer" by Jon Bon Jovi. Why? Just as the lyrics say:
"She says we've got to hold on to what we've got
Cause it doesn't make a difference
If we make it or not
We've got each other and that's a lot
For love -- we'll give it a shot"
Cheesy, I know, but I am a big Bon Jovi fan. Old school, you know.
Favorite quote: "If you can dream it, you can do it," Walt Disney. I like this one because I am a big dreamer and go-getter. So, I always believe you should go for it.
Hobbies: Kayaking, photography and hanging out with family and friends
Biggest stressor: An email box full of messages after a long week of traveling. I can't stand to have a bunch of emails. I like to keep up with them and handle all of them within 24 hours, but some weeks I just can't make it happen.
Guilty pleasure: Dunkin' Donuts
What surprises you about being a mom? I am surprised about how much you can love and worry about your child on a daily basis. It is definitely a feeling I never expected.
Volunteer work: I have been an active member in parent teacher organizations since Brady began kindergarten at Michael C. Riley Elementary School. I have been president, treasurer and mentor to new members. I am currently the treasurer of Bluffton Middle School's PTO and will move into the president role next year. I have also participated on the school improvement council board at Michael C. Riley. I have also volunteered on a few committees for the Beaufort County School District. I really love being involved in Brady's schools and in the community.
Advice for other moms: My advice to other moms and dads is to get involved with your kids' schools. Get to know the teachers, principal and staff of their schools. Put in a couple of hours a year helping your PTO. They work hard to raise desperately needed money to help aid the schools during the inevitable budget cuts.
Schools will welcome your participation, so don't be afraid to volunteer. We have great schools in Bluffton, and great parents are always needed to help.
