Name: Angel Smith
Children: Kailee, 8
Occupation: Oncology nurse at St. Joseph's/Candler SC Cancer Specialists, independent sales consultant and branch director at Park Lane Jewelry and co-owner of Sugar Shack Canvas & Ink
Go-to dinner: Smith said her husband is the cook in the family, and he's known for his pizza and barbecue wings.
Biggest pet peeve: Dirty dishes in the sink and rude people
Hobbies: Singing karaoke with Kailee, boating, fishing, playing cornhole
Volunteer work: "I don't volunteer for any organization in particular, but we're always the go-to people," she said. "Anything that comes up as far as Relay for Life, raising money and different things like that, I'm a part of it." Smith said she is also donating jewelry to a fundraiser for Gospel Lighthouse Church in Ridgeland, which was recently destroyed in a fire.
Favorite mommy moment: "The birth of this little precious thing," Smith said about Kailee, adding that other favorite moments include snuggling with her daughter at night and family vacations to Walt Disney World.
Most challenging moment: When Kailee was 4 years old, she was in the hospital with viral pneumonia. "Seeing your child struggling to breathe, struggling for every breath and there's nothing you can do about it because antibiotics aren't going to work," Smith said. "She finally gets over that, and the day we get home from the hospital my husband got laid off from work." Tied with that story is the time Kailee bled out after having her tonsils and adenoids removed when she was 5 years old. Smith said she and Mark rushed Kailee to the emergency room. "The amount of blood looked like a crime scene. ... It finally stopped, and she was fine."
Stress reliever: A little glass of sweet tea vodka and lemonade, or going for a stroll
Advice for other moms: "Put your arms around your children," she said. "Tell them how much you love them every day. Tell them how proud of them you are, how special they are to you. ... Live like you're dying."
