Name: Christy Baroni
Town: Hilton Head Island
Children: Merrick, 5; Mila, 4
Never miss a local story.
Occupation: Quality assurance manager at Apollo Group and nutrition specialist and coach at CrossFit Hilton Head
Go-to dinner: Chicken and salsa in the Crock-Pot
Biggest pet peeve: People on their phones all the time or texting while they're driving
Hobbies: Working out at CrossFit and reading
Favorite mommy moment: "We do family walks after dinner every night," Baroni said. "They're happy, and everybody is outside. ... It's just fun. We laugh a lot. ... Honestly, that's my favorite part of every day."
Most challenging moment: "Seeing my son in a coma," she said. "When he was 2, he was rushed off to Savannah Memorial with hypoglycemic ketoacidosis, which is the onset of Type 1 diabetes. So we didn't know what was going on because of the coma. We ended up spending seven days at the hospital, just kind of learning what our life was going to be like now. I didn't know anything about it at all before then. So we had to get to a new normal life in general. A lot of people think it's just about sugar and what he eats and stuff. But it impacts a lot of his day. It impacts not only how we eat but also making sure to stay active. ... He gets shots six to eight times a day."
Stress reliever: Working out -- not only the exercise but the second family she has at the gym
Advice for other moms: "The best gift you could give your kids is a healthy marriage and a healthy self," she said. "Your kids will hear what you say, but they'll do what you do. So you can tell them all day long, 'Oh, work hard, and pursue your goals' or whatever. But unless they see you doing that, I don't know that they'll know how to do it. I know my husband and I try to be supportive of each other in front of them about reaching our goals. They know that we pray for each other. So they know that's the way to get through hard times."
