Alexandra Kenneweg has been acting and singing for as long as she can remember. The 18-year-old Hilton Head Island native has performed in shows, including "Grease," "Little Shop of Horrors," "Sound of Music," "Footloose," "Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels," "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" and "Hairspray."
Now, Kenneweg is preparing for the role of Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde."
Woods is the main character who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School to win him back. In the process, she realizes there are more important things in life than chasing around a snooty guy.
"This is my favorite show ever," Kenneweg said. "And I'm so happy I get to do it. She's such a fun character."
Never miss a local story.
Kenneweg and her fellow students at Hilton Head Preparatory School will present the musical version of "Legally Blonde" Thursday through Sunday at the Hilton Head Island High School Visual and Performing Arts Center.
Hilton Head Prep's performing arts director Ben Wolfe said the show stars 29 students, two teachers and two dogs.
Hilton Head Choral Society director Tim Reynolds is the musical director. Kathleen Watkins, a former dance captain in the Broadway cast of "Fosse," is choreographing the show.
Students in the technical theater class built the sets.
"'Legally Blonde' is a fast-paced, high energy 'Elle' of a good time that will leave audiences singing long after the show is over," Wolfe said. "And what better way to spend Valentine's Day weekend?"
