The summer has been brutally hot so far. What's the one thing that could cool it down? Snow.
The inaugural Christmas in July event is being held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Coosaw Point River Club on Lady's Island to benefit the Friends of Caroline Hospice. The event serves as a preview for the annual Festival of Trees fundraiser.
Christmas in July will feature actual (man-made) snow from 1 to 3 p.m. For a flat fee, kids and adults can enjoy the snow along with water slides and games, swimming, barbecue, soda, snacks and live music.
Family tickets are $75. Tickets cost $25 for adults, $12.50 for children and kids younger than 2 get in free. For an additional fee, kids can get a photo with Santa Claus and parents can get an adults-only snow cone (the special ingredient is vodka).
Friends of Caroline Hospice is a nonprofit organization offering end-of-life services, including in-house medical care and bereavement counseling. The organization is named after Beaufort resident Caroline Sue Quann, who died from cancer in 1977 at age 31.
