Drink wine. Support the arts.
Hundreds will do just that Saturday, when the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina hosts its primary fundraiser. The Wine Auction Gala raises money for the nonprofit center's arts education and outreach programs.
The gala will be held inside two large tents on the grounds of the arts center.
The black-tie optional event will feature a gourmet dinner, live and silent auctions, and of course the highlight of the evening -- wine. Guests can sample fine wines and bid on bottles or lots to take home.
"You don't have to be a wine sophisticate," arts center president and CEO Kathleen Bateson said. "You just need to like wine."
This is the first time the center has hosted the wine-lovers' affair since 2007. Bateson said the plan was to hold the event every other year, but 2009 was such a bad year for the economy that the center decided to put it off a couple of years. The next Wine Auction Gala will be in 2013.
Based on ticket sales thus far, Bateson said she expects about 350 people to attend this year's gala.
"We're looking forward to a real high-energy event," she said. "We're extremely grateful to the community for the support."
